Filling the Gap on Stress and Low Energy

Even a Journal of Psychiatry 2018 espouses the use of herbal medicine: for stress, burnout and chronic fatigue.

Rhodiola rosea possesses a dual and unique mechanism of action:

  • normalises the release of stress hormones
  • boosts energy production through the main power house of our cells – the mitochondria (I like to call them the MIGHTY chondria)

Current conventional psychiatric approaches usually target either psychological (promoting relaxation) or physical stress symptoms  (increasing energy) but not both. This herbal approach fulfils both aspects.

Rhodiola is from the succulent family. The particular medicinal species is R.rosea, the part used being the root with a rose like fragrance. R.rosea grows primarily in dry sandy ground at high altitudes in the arctic areas of Europe and Asia.

I use this in tablet and tincture (liquid) form from a reputable manufacturer. As these herbs become popular many companies get on the bandwagon and produce inferior product often with unsustainable practices.

Using herbal medicine is one way to improve our resilience to stress. Others may include sleeping well, eating properly, having fun, moving, meaningful social interaction, meditation.
